Cameroon: How I Became an Asylum Seeker

Episode 19

Play episode

Cameroonian playwright and asylum seeker, Lydia Besong, was snatched and detained by the UK Home Office straight after staging a play criticising the asylum system. She was released after a massive protest, but her problems continued. I spoke to her on a bus as she travelled to a reporting centre in 2012. Lydia is an amazing woman who will not be silenced even though she is threatened by further detention, removal and persecution.
