Trauma Informed Mental Health Training

We have worked with refugees, asylum seekers and vulnerable migrants since 2008 and have run a weekly mental health support group since 2011.

Vulnerable Migrants

We are not coming here to see the beautiful view. Refugees or asylum seekers they come here with a big problem. If they didn’t have problem they will stay in their home.

Amin, Syria

What you pass through… trauma, nightmares, flashback, even me I didn’t know I had mental, you can’t find this in my country.

Paul, Uganda

You can find a good doctor and they hear you and they read your body language.

Paul, Rwanda

When they don’t listen to you, or they don’t believe you, it translates into another stage in mental health problem. And when it becomes escalated, that is when they start listening to you, when things have already gone bad.

Luqman, Nigeria

Testimonial from NHS Provider

“The training is aimed at helping practitioners and services working with refugee, asylum seeker and migrant populations, it covers a broad range of information which will be helpful to those new to this area or who would like to refresh their skills.

The training is particularly strong on the voices of service users, I really liked the use of multi-media, including voices of service users talking about their experiences and what helped them to grow.

This will be a very helpful session in learning more about working with more diverse populations and working towards becoming more trauma informed in your practice.”

Testimonial from Trauma therapist

“As a trauma therapist working with refugees and vulnerable migrants, and a foster carer for separated displaced children, I have found Refugee Radio invaluable as a source of knowledge and support.

The knowledge and expertise that the team have, is something that cannot be gained from books but from working closely alongside the lived experience of the people they are engaged with. They have experience of working with the most complex of cases and the most vulnerable of individuals.

I can imagine no one more suited to delivering this training.”
