Refugee Radio Orchestra and Refugee Music Club
The Refugee Radio Orchestra was a supergroup of refugees, asylum seekers and local musicians who came together through music to show the world how we can all get along. In 2010 the band played all over Brighton, from the Komedia to the birdcage bandstand on the seafront on August Bank Holiday Monday. In the summer of 2011, some of the musicians came together with Planet Gnawa to play at the Glastonbury Festival.
The band featured a lot of different musicians including some members with mental health issues, physical disabilities and those who are unemployed, all overcoming barriers through music. The Orchestra worked to promote a more positive understanding of people from other countries who have sought refuge in our city.
We hope to have some updates about our new Refugee Music Club project soon.
